"Manhole Rehabilitation:
Using the Appropriate Rehabilitation System"

Manholes and other underground structures experience different kinds of corrosion.

 

Whether it's severe ground water infiltration, high levels of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gasses, or a combination.

 

Add to this, budget constraints and specific life expectancy and you have to tailor the rehabilitation solution to match the combination of needs.

 

They all need to be addressed in their own specific way. One solution does not fit all.

 

The presentation will discuss, with real life examples, how each one of the different manhole rehabilitation systems can be used to meet specific needs.

Crews at Miami-Dade Water & Sewer tackle the interior rehab of the main influent pipe delivering into the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant.   The repairs include patching spalled areas, rind seal repairs, etc.  The material utilized was the Epoxytec CPP , a structural epoxy patching paste, offering simple mobilization and logistical access benefits.

Escambia County, Florida sought 17G 's proven flooring rehab and lining system for combating the ultra-aggressive wearing and corrosion of the transfer station tipping floor.

This tipping floor not only undergoes abrasion from the constant push of trash by the bulldozer blades, but also deteriorates from the ongoing permeation of the refuse microbial degradation and leachate contaminants.

Interested in what goes on in typical training sessions?  Well, below you'll view an Epoxytec certified applicator together with Epoxytec trying out some application techniques with a new product - Epoxytec 17G .  After we debrief the technical points of a material, surface prep requirements, limitations, benefits, etc . . . the next step basically is to break open some kits and start feeling it out . . .



This is an informal gathering, and during this meeting, the crew and Epoxytec are observing the 17G  characteristics, flow properties, and other attributes to better understand the workability of the material before mobilizing to a "real" job.  This is important to do, because messing around with the product from an application standpoint pre-job makes you much more comfortable for the real thing later. 

At this session, we practiced mixing, pouring, and observed the pot life.  In addition, we experimented with a 4' pin rake and hand trowels.

And, later that week . . . check out this impressive display of impact resistance.  We were trying to break it up, and to our surprise, it fought back . . .
